Adamson 2nd as USVI cyclists sweep top spots in Caribbean Cycling Championships time trial.

Lisa Adamson enroute to her 2nd place finish in the time trial.
TORTOLA—St. Croix’s Robert Bumann and Sue Brown joined Bermuda’s Kris Hedges and Melanie Claude as the 2nd country to win the male and female time trial events in the history of the Caribbean Cycling Championship, when they pulled off the rare feat over the weekend in Martinique. Meanwhile the BVI’s Lisa Adamson joined Brown on the podium as the silver medalist. Brown was victorious in Saturday’s road race as well.
Bumann—who was second in the championships held on Tortola last year—had a winning time of 1 hour, 3 minutes and 22 seconds, to finish 18 seconds ahead of Guadeloupe’s Louis Teplier, who was timed in 1:03.40. Bermuda’s Garth Thomson was third in 1:04.51. “I won’t say I was surprised but I was aiming for a podium spot,” Bumann said. “I expected Louis Teplier who is a strong rider to be there and I knew he was the man to beat. But, I also knew I was stronger than last year. I’ve been working for this all year, cycled about 10,000 miles to get in shape so I’m very pleased with the result.”
Bumann was 10th in the road race with a time of 3 hours 31 minutes and 18 seconds. “That race was very difficult because half the field was from Martinique and Guadeloupe and they controlled the race,” he explained. “When they took off on the third lap I didn’t notice until the fifth lap and it was too late to organize a chase.”

Olympia Fahie smiles after recieving her 2nd gold medal in as many days.
Christchurch, BARBADOS-Olympia Fahie stood on the top spot of the podium for the second consecutive day after winning the Caribbean Junior championships road race today. Again with no competition from the field, Fahie was able to ride away from Barbados’s Crystal Springer on the 3 lap of the 9 lap race to claim her 2nd gold medal in as many days.
“I am happy today. I still wish that I had more of a challenge, but I am happy,” Fahie stated. “It was a hard race because the boys were really pushing it on the hill. I know that I was going to win but I wanted to see if I could beat some of the boys.” The race was fast from the gun as the 3 girls raced in the category with the juvenile boys seeing that it was only 3 of them. Said BVICF President David Thomas, “I wanted her to be challenged so I asked the commissar to put her in the race with the juniors, but he suggested the juveniles.......

Olympia enroute to victory!
Christchurch, BARBADOS-Despite not receiving her bicycle until after 11pm Friday, and still not receiving her clothes, Olympia Fahie gave the BVI it’s second cycling gold medal today when she won the time trial at the Caribbean Junior Championships.
With a very small field and no real competition, Fahie covered the 15km(9.3 mile) course in 27mins 31secs…a full 5minutes faster than the second place finisher. “I am disappointed and upset that I didn’t have any competition, but I am happy that I won,” Fahie said.” “I liked the course, even though it was a bit too hilly, but I felt good…I think that the training in Atlanta made me faster, but it would have been nice to have the Puerto Ricans girls here to really see, but I’m still happy.”
