The BVI Cycling Federation in collaboration with the BVI Mountain Bike Club will be hosting this year’s Tour de Tortola. The first race of the two-stage mountain bike event, the Prologue, will be held on Saturday July 10 at Beef Island at the Loose Mongoose loop. This is a 2.5 mile time-trial on a flat but very technical course and begins at 4 p.m.

Registration for the entire weekend will start at 3 p.m. before the first stage. The main course or Stage 2, will be held on Sunday July 11 and starts at Pasea Estate, Road Town in front of the Rite Way Parking Lot at 7 a.m. sharp.

They will then continue on the entire Ridge Road, and head straight over towards Lambert, climbing the Hill towards Balsam Ghut and then descending Balsam Ghut or the Prison Hill down towards the Beef Island Bridge and make a left towards the airport, passing through the airport terminal and continue on the road towards the Loose Mongoose then making right back unto the main road heading back to Road Town, using the main Road, passing the Port Purcell Roundabout where they will make the immediate right turn on the junction at Delta Gas Station to finish at the starting line in front of Riteway.

The main course applies for the elite, masters and veteran riders. Meanwhile the Ladies and Juniors will be doing a shorter course. They will start the same time as the main course riders and head towards West End but instead they will make a right and go over Zion Hill into Capoon’s Bay, continue the course to Carrot Bay, up Windy Hill, to Sky World and the entire Ridge Road. But on reaching Little Dix Hill, they will continue down the hill and make a right at the East End Police Station and continue back to Road Town where they will finish the race.
