Lisa Adamson returns to cycling

Lisa Adamson made her comeback to cycling with a bang, by winning the BVI Cycling Federation 15-mile time trial held on May 16.
Adamson, who has been absent from the sport since March 2009 following a serious cycling accident, won the female division of the time trial and went on to place fifth overall.
Adamson led the female division, ahead of first timer Judy Haycraft who sprinted in, in a time of 45:48 and Sally Blackmore who came third in 46:24.
Andrew “Tubes” Thompson won the men’s overall title in a time of 38:43 seconds with Orano Andrews following closely on his heels in 39:20 while Darel Christopher Junior came third in 41:20.
In the junior category, the competition was tight among the three youngsters but in the end, Nevron Anderson rode in first in a time of 50.35, followed by Shaquil Samuel in second and Orlando Savory in third.
“It was great. The amazing thing is it was so great to see fellow cyclists and everyone welcomed me back with open arms and it was so very encouraging as well,” said Adamson.
“I felt great. I felt good, better than what I thought,” she said.
However, though she came back for the time trial, Adamson is still not sure about competing in road races but may consider it.
Seventeen riders participated in the time-trial which was sponsored by Road Town Wholesale.
President of the BVI Cycling Federation Darel Christopher Sr. said it was a very successful event with three riders using time trial bikes and more so with the return of Lisa Adamson.
He took the opportunity to thank the motorists for their cooperation during the event and also the many volunteers who turned out and offered their assistance.
The next event on the federation’s calendar is the 55-mile Road Town Highway Challenge on June 27.
