Orano Andrews

Sally Blackmore

In a time of 25 minutes and 8 seconds, Orano Andrews sprinted to the finish line in the BVI Cycling Federation 10-mile Time Trial held on Sunday March 14.
His brother Antonio Andrews made the second place mark in a time of 26 minutes and 1 second, pushing Darel Christopher Jr. into third place, with a time of 28 minutes and 22 seconds.
Explaining how he navigated the route that started from Palestina to the Frenchman’s Cay Junction and back, Orano said there was not much wind riding down but he was faced with a little bit of head wind while coming back up. Orano said he managed to catch up and pass a lot of riders, being the last rider to start off on the two-minute interval time trial, and realised that he could win.
“I went out there and did my best,” said Orano who is sponsored by the BSafe Programme. He thanked BSafe for allowing the use of their equipment, both the time trial bike and also a mountain bike.
Meanwhile, in the ladies category, the BVI Mountain Bike Club new president Sally Blackmore sprinted to victory in a time of 31 minutes and 20 seconds, which also secured her 7th place overall, from a field of 12 riders. Blackmore broke Kay Reddy’s winning streak, as Reddy settled for second place with a time of 32 minutes and 56 seconds. Olympia Fahie was third in 33 minutes and 52 seconds.
The next event on the BVICF’s calendar is the Sir Francis Drake Highway Challenge which is slated for April 25.
