Steers wins BVICF Classic

Winners in the Expert Category, Left to Right, Orano Andrews (3rd place), Ryan Steers (1st Place) and Darel Christopher Jr. (2nd Place)

U.S. cyclist Ryan Steers claimed an easy victory in the BVI Cycling Federation Classic on Sunday, winning the 30-mile road race in 1 hour 17 minutes and six seconds.
Young Darel Christopher Jr pushed ahead to keep up with the category one cyclist and rode in for second place in a time of 1 hour 21 minutes and 55 seconds. Orano Andrews came in third in a time of 1 hour 24 minutes and 55 seconds.
Only two female took part in Sunday’s race with Kay Reddy claiming her second consecutive victory in the Federation’s events.
Reddy sprinted to the finish line in a time of 1 hour 48 minutes and 34 seconds while Olympia Fahie who had a flat, walked to the finish line to complete her race in a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 15 seconds.
Peter Le Blanc took the top spot in the Masters Division, clocking a time of 1 hour 28 minutes and 43 seconds. Adrian Dale took second place in 1 hour 33 minutes and 58 seconds while Steve Marsh claimed the third spot in 1 hour 40 minutes and 50 seconds.
In the Fun Novice division which was a shorter course, Mike Master won in a time of 1 hour 17 minutes and 6 seconds while Michael Faye came in second in 1 hour 19 minutes and 28 seconds. Stoerd Koster was on his heels in a time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 56 seconds.
At the end of the race which last over two hours, the top three riders in the above categories were awarded medals. Nineteen riders participated in the race which showed an improvement from our last event.
The 30-mile road race started from the West End Police Station and headed west towards Frenchman’s Cay junction. Riders made a U-turn at the junction then travel east on the main road to the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, they rode into the College’s compound and around the roundabout, then returned to the West End Police Station for the finish.
The course applied for all riders except for the Fun Novice who rode the same course but instead made the turn-around at the Port Purcell Roundabout and returned for the finish at the West End Police Station.
The Federation would like to thank all cyclists, supporters and volunteers who turned out to the BVICF Classic race and we encourage everyone to come out to our March 14 Time Trial.
We would also like to recognise Road Town Wholesale for their sponsorship of Gatorade and Supa Value for their contribution of water.
The next event on the Federation’s agenda is the March 14, 10-mile time trial which will take off from the Palestina Junction to the Frenchman’s Cay Junction and back.
